Call For Abstracts

The Max Planck Foundation and the Hamida Barmaki Organization invite Afghan and international scholars to submit abstracts for the upcoming Afghan Legal Studies Conference and the newly founded Yearbook of Afghan Legal Studies.

The Afghan Legal Studies Conference will be held in Kabul in November/December 2015. Panels on public law, private law, criminal law, international law, interdisciplinary studies (such as legal theory, legal history, legal anthropology, legal sociology), and rule of law are planned. Papers presented at the conference should be related to Afghanistan. Interested scholars are invited to submit their CV and an abstract of 600 up to 1000 words in one of the conference languages, Dari and English, to the organizers until 31 August 2015. Those selected for the conference will have to to submit their full papers until 31 October 2015. In individual cases, travel expenses can be refunded.

The Yearbook of Afghan Legal Studies (سالنامه مطالعات حقوقی افغانستان ) is published in Dari language, with Pashto and English summaries, since 1393 AP (2015 CE). The permanent editors, Sayed Hameed Zia and Tilmann J. Röder, invite one guest editor for each volume. Selected papers presented at the Afghan Legal Studies Conference will be published in the Yearbook. Interested researchers may also submit an abstract only for the Yearbook. The thematic areas are the same as those of the conference.

The only criterion in the selection of conference contributions and/or journal articles is quality. The name and position of the author is of no relevance. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed on an anonymous basis. Authors of the selected papers will have access to the get access to the library of the Hamida Barmaki Organization and academic support from the Max Planck Foundation (no monetary benefits included).

Please send you abstract to Abstracts for the conference must be sent in no later than on 31August 2015; abstracts only for the Yearbook may be sent to the same email address until 30 November 2015.

Please do not apply for mere attendance of the conference; this will not be possible. The audience will be rather small due to financial constraints and for security reasons.
